Pricing
Website design pricing: one build fee, then the hosting
The whole price list is three numbers. $1 once for the website, designed and written by hand and live in seven days. Then hosting at $8.99 a month, or $18.99 a month if you want the .com included in the bill rather than billed on at cost.
Today you pay $1 for the website plus your first month of hosting. After that hosting is $8.99 a month, billed on the same date each month until you cancel, and you can cancel in any month. The .com is included on the Complete plan at $18.99 a month. On Basic at $8.99 a month the name is registered in your own name and run for you, and the registry’s own annual fee for it, about $12 a year, is billed separately at cost.
The build
What the $1 buys
It’s a real build, with nothing left for you to finish. A designer draws the pages around your trade and a copywriter writes every word on them from a questionnaire that takes about half an hour to fill in.
$1,500 list price
$1
once, for the whole website
The same build is openly sold at $1,500, which is what a US agency charges for a small business site of this size. We charge $1 for it because we’d rather earn the relationship over the months you stay hosted than win an argument about a deposit on day one.
- A designer draws it. Not a template you pick from a grid and fill in on a Sunday night.
- A copywriter writes it. Your services, your area, your prices, in sentences a person wrote.
- Live in seven days. Domain pointed, SSL on and email working.
- You own it. The domain is registered in your name and the words and photographs are yours to take.
What happens across the seven days is written out step by step, and the industry pages show the structure we would use for your trade before you spend anything.
The monthly
Two hosting plans, and one line between them
Everything that keeps a website alive is in both plans. The only difference is whether the .com sits inside the monthly or is billed on to you at what the registry charges.
Basic
$8.99a month
Hosting, business email, SSL and nightly backups. Your domain is registered in your own name and run for you; the registry’s own annual fee for it, about $12 a year for a .com, is billed separately at cost.
Start on BasicDomain included
Complete
$18.99a month
Everything in Basic, and the .com itself is included in the monthly rather than billed on to you. One bill, nothing to renew separately.
Start on Complete| What you get | Basic $8.99/mo | Complete $18.99/mo |
|---|---|---|
| The website itself, designed and written by hand | Included | Included |
| Live in seven days from your answers | Included | Included |
| Hosting, with the site on our servers | Included | Included |
| SSL certificate, issued and renewed for you | Included | Included |
| Business email on your own domain | One mailbox | Ten mailboxes |
| A nightly backup | Kept 30 nights | Kept 90 nights |
| Changes made for you after the first 30 days | Two a month | As many as you send |
| Your dashboard, to edit the site yourself | Included | Included |
| The domain registered in your own name | Included | Included |
| The .com included in the monthly, every year | billed at cost, about $12 a year | Included |
Both plans are billed monthly and cancel in any month. Sales tax is added where a state requires us to collect it, and it’s shown on the invoice before the total. The one figure on this page that isn’t ours is the registry fee for a .com, which we pass through at cost and which the registry can change.
The number people want
What two years costs, on each plan
Monthly pricing is easy to compare badly, so here are both plans in full: the build plus twenty-four months, with the domain cost counted on both.
| Plan | Two years, all in | What is in that figure |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $240.76$1 for the website + 24 × $8.99 hosting + 2 × $12 registry fee, at cost | The build, twenty-four months of hosting, and two years of the registry fee for the .com, passed through at cost. |
| Complete | $456.76$1 for the website + 24 × $18.99 hosting, .com included | The build and twenty-four months of hosting, with the .com inside the monthly and nothing billed on separately. |
For context: the published range for a small business website built by a US agency runs from about $501 to $5,000, and pay-monthly done-for-you services in this market sit between $24.99 and $199 a month. Those figures and their sources are set out in full on what a small business website costs and on pay monthly websites.
What isn’t on the bill
The charges that aren’t here, and won’t appear later
What makes web pricing feel misleading is usually the charges that arrive after the headline number.
01
No charge for changes
Edit it yourself from the dashboard, or send it over and we make the change for you, usually the same business day. Two a month on Basic, as many as you send on Complete, and no hourly rate.
02
No setup fee on the hosting
The $1 is the only one-off charge. There’s no activation fee, no migration fee and no fee for pointing a domain you already own.
03
No exit fee, and no notice period
Cancel from the billing screen. The site runs to the last day you paid for, the export is yours, and the transfer code for your domain goes out within one business day at no charge.
04
No commission on what you’re paid
When a customer pays an invoice or a deposit through the site, we take nothing per payment. Your card processor charges its own fee, which is theirs, disclosed by them, and never marked up by us.
The $1 is our standing price and not a promotion with a closing date, a coupon, a qualifying period or a minimum term attached to it.
From our own terms of service, which is the version that binds us.The full recurring disclosure, in the format a card issuer would want to see it, is on the billing and subscription page: what repeats, how much, how often, when it starts and how to stop it. If you want the delivery timetable in the same detail, that is the delivery page.
Questions
What people ask next
Is the $1 a promotion that expires?
No. It’s the standing price, with no coupon, no qualifying period, no closing date and no minimum term attached to it. The same build is openly sold at $1,500, which is what a US agency charges for a small business site of this size. What repeats afterwards is the hosting, at the rate on this page, and there’s no introductory rate anywhere in it. Hosting at $8.99 a month is limited to the first 100 orders each month. After that, new orders that month are on Complete at $18.99 a month, with the .com included.
What is the catch?
There’s no catch, but there’s a business model, and it’s fair to say it out loud. We lose money on the build and make it back over the months you stay hosted. That only works if the site is good enough that you want to keep it, which is why a designer and a writer do the work instead of a wizard. If you cancel in month two we’re down on the deal, and we would still rather that than tie you into a term.
Can the monthly price go up?
Not on your plan. The monthly price you order at is the price you keep for as long as your plan runs. We may change our prices for new orders, and a change never reaches a plan that is already running. That’s written into the terms of service, not just promised here.
What does the domain cost?
The .com is included on the Complete plan at $18.99 a month. On Basic at $8.99 a month the name is registered in your own name and run for you, and the registry’s own annual fee for it, about $12 a year, is billed separately at cost. It’s a renewal price rather than a cheap first year: year five costs what year one cost. The .com in year one and year two sets out what happens elsewhere, where an included domain usually lapses after twelve months and renews at list.
Do you charge for changes after the site is live?
No. Edit the site yourself from the dashboard as often as you like, or send the change over and we make it, usually the same business day: two a month on Basic, as many as you send on Complete, and unlimited for the first 30 days. A new phone number, a price list, a photograph, a whole new page of services: all of it is inside the monthly.
What happens if I cancel?
You cancel from the billing screen in your dashboard, in about four clicks, with no notice period and no exit fee. The site runs to the last day you have paid for and nothing is deleted for thirty days after that, so you can take the export. You’re the registrant of the domain, so the name leaves with you and the transfer code goes out within one business day at no charge. The refunds and cancellation policy has it in full.
How does this compare with everyone else?
With the sources printed. What a small business website costs puts our number next to the real US range, and the comparison pages take it vendor by vendor. Every competitor figure on this site was read off a public pricing page and is dated in the row.
